The Court will hold a Grand Chamber hearing in the case of Lautsi v. Italy on 30 June 2010. The application concerns the presence of crucifixes in classrooms in Italian state schools. In its Chamber judgment of 3 November 2009 the Court found a violation of Article 2 of Protocol No. 1 (right to education) in conjunction with Article 9 of the Convention (freedom of thought, conscience and religion). The case was referred to the Grand Chamber for fresh examination at the request of the Italian Government. The hearing will be broadcast on the Court’s Internet site on 30 June 2010, starting at 2.30 p.m.
